MetalGearメモ(1) 『MGSV:TPP』の年表

メタルギアシリーズでは度々年表が出てきますが、当方では『MGSV:TPP』のものを最終的な公式設定とみなし、解釈の基準とします。

『TPP』のエンディングで流れる二つの年表について、日本語版・英語版を見比べ、気になる箇所をピックアップしてみます。

二つの年表

『TPP』の年表は1984年を境目として二つに分かれています。

メタルギアワールド固有の出来事については太字で表記し、史実については分かる範囲の日付を注で補足します。

(1) 過去 ≫ 1984

一つ目の年表。
背景には、FOX、国境なき軍隊、ダイアモンド・ドッグズ、アウターヘブンのロゴが入れ替わりで表示されます。

1942

コードトーカー、米軍コードトーカーの暗号表作成に協力
Code Talker helps create the U.S. military code talkers' cipher book.

1964

ヴァーチャスミッション
Virtuous Mission.

ザ・ボス死去

コンゴ民主共和国、国名をザイールに変更*5

国際圧力により、南アは実験場を放棄
Bowing to international pressure, the South African government abandons the site.

ゼロ、BIGBOSSを訪問後、消息不明となる
Zero visits Big Boss, then disappears completely, never to be seen public again.

1979

イラン革命、アメリカ大使館人質事件*12
The Iranian Revolution leads to the Iran Hostage Crisis.

イーライ、アフリカで消息を絶つ
Eli escapes his handlers in Africa and disappears.

FSLN武装蜂起、ソモサ大統領が亡命し、ニカラグア革命成就*13
President Somoza defects follwing the FSLN uprising, 
and the Nicaraguan Revolution comes to fruition.

二つ目の年表。
背景には、3種類のアウターヘブンのロゴが入れ替わりで表示されます。

1984

ロサンゼルスオリンピック開催*21
The Olympic Games are held in Los Angeles.

モスクワオリンピックを西側諸国がボイコットした報復で、東欧諸国はボイコット
The games are boycotted by Eastern Bloc countries as retaliation for the Western boycott of the Moscow Olympics.

イーライ、アフリカに「蠅の王国」を築く
Eli establishes his "Kingdom of the Flies" in Africa.

1985

ソ連、ゴルバチョフ政権誕生*22
Gorbachev takes office in the Soviet Union.

デタント2、ポスト冷戦へ
East-West relations enter a second détente, and the post-Cold War period begins.

1989

ソ連軍、アフガニスタンから完全撤退*23
The Soviet Union makes a complete withdrawal from afghanistan.

以降、アフガニスタンは内戦に突入
Afganistan plunges into civil war.

ベルリンの壁崩壊、東西ドイツ統一へ*24

湾岸戦争勃発*25
The Gulf War begins.

リキッド（イーライ）、ソリッド（デイヴィッド）戦場へ

ソビエト連邦解体*26
The Soviet Union dissolves.

1993

南ア、それまでの核保有を公表するとともに全廃を宣言*27
South Africa acknowledges possession of nuclear weapons and simultaneously pledges to abolish its arsenal.

1994

タリバン結成
Formation of the Taliban.

アフガニスタン内で勢力を伸ばす
The Taliban begins to gain influence in Afghanistan.

1995

BIGBOSS、米特殊部隊FOXHOUNDより指揮を行い、
南アフリカに武装要塞国家アウターヘブン設立
While commanding special forces unit FOXHOUND from a position in the U.S. military,
Big Boss establishes the fortified military nation "Outer Heaven" in South Africa.

アウターヘブン蜂起発生
ソリッド・スネークがこれを鎮圧し、
BIGBOSSのファントムを殺害
The Outer Heaven Uprising occurs, but it is quashed by Solid Snake, 
who kills Big Boss's phantom.

1996

第一次コンゴ戦争勃発*28
The First Congo War breaks out.

結果として、ザイールのモブツ大統領失脚
As a result, President Mobutu is ousted from power in Zaire.

翌年、国名をザイールからコンゴ民主共和国に変更することとなる
The following year, Zaire officially becomes the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

1998

第二次コンゴ戦争勃発*29
民族対立、資源収奪等を主因とする
The Second Congo War breaks out due to causes such as ethnic hostility and resource conflicts.

ソリッド・スネーク、BIGBOSSを殺害

Solid Snake kills Big Boss, but the Patriots revive him and conceal his comatose body.

アメリカ同時多発テロ*30
Coodinated terrorist attaks are carried out against America.

ビッグシェル占拠事件
Big Shell Incident.

2010

米、及び関係するPMC傭兵部隊に対しナノマシン（SOP）注入開始
The U.S. begins introducing nanomachines (the SOP system) to its military and affiliated PMCs.

ハンガリー、国籍法を改定*36
Hungary revises its citizenship laws.

国内居住歴がなくとも、ハンガリー人の子孫であり、
ハンガリー語が話せれば国籍取得可能に
The new terms allow even those who have never resided in the country to become naturalized, provided they are a descendent of a Hungarian citizen and have knowledge of the Hungarian language.

死に関する記述がある場合はついでに併記。

気になるポイント

• 英語だと一行目に「cipher」の文言がある。
• 「ヴェノム」の表記がどこにもない。
• 1975年のBIGBOSSには昏睡の記述なし。
• 英語版によればイーライは1979年にアフリカで「handlers」から「逃走」。
• 1984年の英語版の「Snake awakens.」だと覚醒したのはスネーク一人のようにも見える。
• 「第三の子供」は英語だと"The Third Boy"。
• なぜかわざわざ「第一子」と明記されているHAL。
• ソリダスはどこ？
• 「死去」と「殺害」の違いは意図的？
• マスター・ミラーが「マスター"カズヒラ"ミラー」になっている。「ベネディクト」や「マクドネル」の表記なし。
• 2005年にリキッドの死の記述がない。
• 最後の「BIGBOSS、死去」の前に大きな間があるため、2014年の出来事かどうか曖昧。

年表に関する解釈の指針

史実も混ざっているので歴史を学ぶきっかけにはなりますが、これらの年表はあくまで架空の世界のもの。
現実と違い、その行間の背景はほとんど空白です。
年表に書かれていることを骨組みとしつつ、どのような解釈で肉付けするかはプレイヤーの想像力次第と言えます。

そして押さえておかなければならないのは、これはメタルギアシリーズだということです。

カバーストーリー。
死んだと思ったのに実は生きてた。
同じような名まえ、同じような顔のキャラクターが何人もいる。なんか増えてる。

そういったことがよくある世界です。

年表上の名まえには複数の人物が該当するかもしれず、意外と解釈の余地はありそうです。

当方では『MGSPW』以降のメタルギアサーガの舞台を〈第三サイクル〉、すなわち「三巡目の世界」として定義しています。
そのため、『MGSV:TPP』の1984年よりも先の出来事については、年表に書かれていること以外は変わる可能性がある「確定していない未来」として扱います。

ゲーム中にタイムパラドックスの概念がある以上、大筋では〈第二サイクル〉の『MGS4』までで描かれた出来事に沿うことになりますが、公式自ら「実は『MG』のビッグボスは違う人でした」という裏技を使っていることですし、面白さ重視で色んなルートを検討してみたいと思います。
